Resurrection Bay paddle: rugged landscapes and wildlife of Kenai Fjords National Park

Provided by Sunny Cove Sea Kayaking

Seward may be the end of the road for those traveling southeast along the Kenai Peninsula; but the options along the water beyond port are seemingly infinite. A small town nestled between the snow-capped Chugach Mountains and Resurrection Bay it abounds with numerous activities. Have you ever imagined a place of turquoise blue waters, tidewater and hanging glaciers, protected coves and rugged islands with cliffs teeming with puffins? These visions become reality in Kenai Fjords National Park and Resurrection Bay.

Seward is the gateway to Resurrection Bay with its many coves and barrier islands. We’re home to Caines Head State Park and its hike to underground Ft. McGilvary, along with the State Marine Park at Thumb Cove. The marine parks at Sunny Cove and the Spit are both located at Fox Island which has a diverse coastline of sea stacks and beautiful cobblestone beaches. Past the barrier islands lies the expanse of the Gulf of Alaska and the entrances into the fantastic fjords of Aialik Bay and Northwestern Fjords – both part of the Kenai Fjords National Park. These waters are also home to pods of orca, humpback whales, stellar sea lions, and harbor seals as well as many marine birds.

This is our home and we want to share its beauty with you and your family. There is no better way to view the wildlife, explore the coastline or get to know the real Alaska than by kayaking. The 3 hour tours will give you a taste of the natural beauty of the Bay, while the multi-day kayak/camping trips immerse all your senses into the spectacular vistas surrounding you while kayaking through the bergie bits. While at camp you will hear the thunder of the calving glaciers and feel like you have stepped back in time. We are an Alaskan company providing quality paddling experiences since 1996.

Sunny Cove Sea Kayaking practices “leave-no-trace” ethics and prides itself on respecting the environment.
