The 18th Annual Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament was held on Saturday, March 19, on Kachemak Bay for 858 anglers and 248 boats with a total catch of 135 fish. It was an incredibly beautiful sunny day, made just right for a great day of fishing.
It was a winning day for angler Michael Walls of Homer, who landed the biggest salmon while fishing on “Dynamike”. Michael’s fish weighed in at 30.0 lbs winning $18,018 in cash for his fish. Michael, as captain of the “Dynamike”, also was awarded the John Hillstrand Memorial Trophy, in honor of the late John Hillstrand. Michael also took home $19,687.50 in boat side bet winnings.
Second place winner was John Lund of Anchorage who won $12,012 fishing on the My Toy with captain Clay Norvell who won $3,150 in boat side bets.
Total prize payout awarded to the top 10 finishers was $64,350.00. Boat side bet winners took home $41,081.25, totaling overall $105,431.25 in cash prizes and over $10,629.00 in merchandise prizes.
