February 21, 2012

We live in a beautiful place. Today’s activity choices included skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding and paddling. Three days of skiing and tired legs helped move the decision toward paddling.

Seward and Resurrection Bay is incredible on a calm sunny day. Temperatures might not have gone much over freezing but it felt like spring had arrived. Light is returning. Over 8.5 hours of daylight today.

Sea lions and seals swam past, curious to check out this early season paddler. Boat and kayak traffic slow down this time of year. The animals had the Bay mostly to themselves. Resurrection Bay waters seem to be especially active this February with frequent sightings of sea lions, otters, seals, sea birds and the occasional visit of an over-wintering humpback whale.

The pace of life is picking up… Both on and off the water. Spring is in the air. Summer kayaking season is around the corner and the possibilities are endless.
