Two Cruising Sisters

A wet and wonderful day!  This morning we woke up to bright skies and a glimpse of Mt. McKinley.  As we leave Homer, it’s rain, mist, fog, and a brief squall.

As you walk off the ship, you’re given a raucous greeting but hundreds of gulls and kittiwakes.  we took the free shuttle to the spit and wandered around, taking pictures of some of the quirky sights and folks, and of the busy harbor.  It’s definitely a working harbor, full of fishing boats, as well as the Alaska State Ferry, a NOAA ship and a Coast Guard ship.

Took an amazing, exhilarating tour of Gull Island and Kachemak Bay with Red Mountain Marine.  This was a ship’s excursion that turned out way better than either of us had anticipated.  The Beowulf held 10 passengers (plus Tammy and Ellie – both captains, but Tammy was functioning as deck hand this go…
